We are live! Yacht E Skills aims to fill the knowledge void left by when training became mandatory. You undoubtedly need the training that the global regulations require, but this means that the training has become very expensive and is based on getting you through the qualifications that are needed and not providing the information you want. It’s simple market forces; it is difficult to make a profit from wanted information if your potential customers have spent all their money learning needed information. Instead, crew rely on learning their trade on board whilst they actually do their job. This works well assuming that the people doing the training know their stuff and that they have time to teach or train. Sadly this is not always the case. Basic rope work, navigation and seamanship are typical areas where routine mistakes and poor practices are passed down the ranks and through generations of crew. It’s the same in all departments on board yachts. There are several fora sharing knowledge and many books and publications delivering information. However this information, the information you may want not necessarily need to pass an exam or certificate, is spread over a wide area. Our plan is to place it in one area of the web and provide easy access to all who need it. We don’t intend to stop there. Your feedback and input will allow us to spend our resources on improving, developing and publishing more and better training in the formats you can make use of it most easily. We hope to develop a community of people developing, sharing and using information to make our jobs easier and safer. Please join us.
